Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) and Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) have become the dominant flooring choice across Metro Vancouver, and for good reason — they are 100% waterproof, dimensionally stable, comfortable underfoot, and available in realistic wood and stone patterns that rival the appearance of the natural materials they replicate.

In a region that receives over 1,200mm of annual rainfall, where wet boots, umbrellas, and rain-soaked pets are a daily reality for eight months of the year, the complete waterproof nature of vinyl flooring eliminates the moisture anxiety that accompanies hardwood and laminate installations. Standing water, spills, and humidity have zero effect on properly installed LVP — a critical advantage in Vancouver kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and entryways.

LVP is manufactured in two primary construction types: WPC (Wood Polymer Composite) and SPC (Stone Polymer Composite). Vinyl plank flooring naturally dampens impact sound better than hardwood or laminate, and when combined with an appropriate acoustic underlayment, it readily meets the STC/IIC ratings required by most Vancouver strata bylaws.

Some premium LVP products include a factory-attached acoustic backing that eliminates the need for separate underlayment. Subfloor preparation remains important — while LVP is more forgiving of minor subfloor imperfections than laminate, significant dips, humps, or debris under the floor will telegraph through the vinyl surface and cause premature wear at high spots.
